Hayrides/Farm Tours

Hayrides have been a country favorite for a long time, and what’s better than a hayride on a working farm?  On our hayrides, you will get to see how we raise our animals using historical methods with modern technology, and good ol’ fashioned hand gardening.  Depending on the season, you may experience the commercial row crop side of our operation where you can see our tractors and combine working in the fields, and it is always enjoyable to witness our balage baler in action, baling hay in the summer.  If you are interested in scenery and nature, our farm has several different habitats and numerous pastures we can visit and enjoy.  We also have herds of white tailed deer and flocks of wild turkeys; it would be rare not to see one or both of these while here.

We offer two main types of hayrides, educational and scenic ones. Hayrides will be led by either Brian, Kevin, Andrea, or Joyce and are weather dependent.  If the ground is too muddy, we do not want to make ruts in our fields and paths.

Educational Hayride

On our educational hayrides, we stop along the route at the various animal, garden, and crops spots and inform you of what we do and why we do it. Depending on the season, you may see our laying hens, broiler meat chickens, turkeys, cows, pigs, brooder houses, gardens, etc.  This is a longer hayride and can last one to two hours.

Scenic Hayride

On the scenic hayride, we travel around the farm non-stop.  We provide an on-wagon guide to answer any questions you may have while riding.  As we travel around the farm, you will see our crops, pastures and livestock.  You will also experience God’s wonderful creation first hand.  On this hayride you can specify the duration, but it generally lasts 30-45 minutes.

We will offer our hayrides to the general public on specific scheduled dates and times, so check Facebook or our website for more information.  If we do not have enough riders we may have to cancel the hayride due to the cost of the operation of the tractor.  We prefer to take reservations ahead of time from families or groups so we can make sure we have enough people riding.

We currently only have one hayride wagon, so if you have a large group we may need to split you up and make multiple trips.   We will cater to about any time slot you are interested in, whether it be morning, daytime, evening, or moonlight hayrides.  We will try to accommodate your wishes on the length of the hayride, since we can add or delete locations as needed.   We will strive to meet your needs and make your visit to our farm memorable.

Our hayride wagon has a fold-up stairs with double hand rails.  If you can climb stairs, you will have no problem getting on or off the wagon.  There is wooden bench seating provided around the perimeter of the wagon and we can add straw bales down the middle if needed.

To reserve a date and time, please call us at (217)-275-3491 or email us at lafamilyfarms@gmail.com with your date preference and we will check availability.  If the weather dictates a need for a changed date, we will do our best to accommodate your schedule.

Due to the different hayride options and time limits each group has, one price does not fit all situations. Please call us for specific pricing.

Enjoy a fun country evening on the farm, away from the hustle and bustle of city life with an old county favorite, a bonfire and tractor-driven hayride around the farm. As the day winds down on the farm, our animals and nature come to life, and we want to share this experience with you. If you prefer, we also do nighttime rides where you can star gaze or look at the moon. You decide how you want to start your visit, either with a meal or the hayride. If you want a meal, grab your roasting sticks and cook on the campfire. Bring your own food or purchase some L&A meats from our store for your meal (the meat will be frozen unless other arrangements are made). We have Parmesan-Garlic Bratwursts as well as sweet and hot Italian Sausages that would cook well on a stick.

The hayride will last approximately 30-45 minutes as we travel around the farm viewing our crops, gardens, pastures, woods, and animals.  At the end of the hayride, you will be dropped off back at your bonfire to enjoy the remainder of your evening. Also while you are here, feel free to walk our nature trails and paths that lead to the animals and gardens.
